Journal #62

Out of the blue. Clocks. Those damn clocks. There are too many. And every one of them seems to be reminding me how quickly time disappears. Some tick loudly, others silently count down, but none of them ever stop. Eventually, you start wondering if you’re watching the clocks or if the clocks are watching you.

Maybe I should read a good book. Nah. Sunday is a special kind of day. It’s a day to slow down, turn up the music and rock. There’s no peace at all when the music gets loud and the spirit of rebellion takes over. Sundays were never meant to be boring. A Sunday worships Jim and revolutionary sound.

So it’s a day of music and bad religion, where the sounds are louder than the sermons and nobody needs permission to enjoy themselves. A little rock and roll, a little mischief, and a healthy disrespect for the ordinary make Sunday worth celebrating. After all, not every Sunday needs to be holy.

“Away In India” is a great Doors song, but then I turn on The Daniel Blowden Show. A little bro and I quickly realize there’s more out there.

Top 5 Songs:

  1. “California Love” by 2pac ‧ 1996‧
  2. “California Girls” by The Beach Boys ‧ 1965.
  3. “Best Day Of My Life” by American Authors ‧ 2014.
  4. “Shake It Off ” by Taylor Swift ‧ 2014.
  5. “Dead!” by My Chemical Romance ‧ 2006.

My Chemical Romance’s “Dead!” is a powerful reminder that art doesn’t have to be beautiful, comfortable or even make sense to everyone. Sometimes the greatest art comes from confronting mortality, embracing chaos and finding humour in the darkness. The song captures the theatrical side of life and death, turning something traditionally frightening into an explosive artistic statement. Some of the best art can challenge expectations, make people uncomfortable; it can be beautiful and haunt you.

Dave Read doesn’t read, but he’s got pretty good art.
